I thought of a design for a splitter that retracts under the facia via slip joints on a couple of pre-tensioned sliding tracks attached to the bottom of the facia. When the forward edge of the splitter encounters a parking barrier, it is pushed back and will slide under the facia two or three inches. This provides a cushion before causing damage to the parts. Also a micro switch could be used to activate a dash warning light, or tone when contact [and movement] was established. Material is TPO (thermoplastic olefin elastomer).
I'd also like to see some of our nerds adapt a rear parking sonar unit found on many new cars to the front of our cars.
